Narberth’s Oriel Q Christmas exhibition ‘Treasure Trove’ opens with a bang on Saturday November 23. The gallery’s artists and craftsmen have been busy creating small, irresistible Christmas somethings, all with that special made-by-hand look.
Amongst the paintings on show is Susan Sands’ acrylic piece ‘Cooling Off’, taking you back to long summer days, hot enough to tempt you to strip off and get you paddling in the river. A more seasonal offering is the delicate watercolour of a ‘Christmas Cactus’ by Judy Maynard, its pendulous flowers are such a surprising splash of colour on dark winter days.
David Williams’ skill with a palette knife captures the shimmering surface of the sea with thick layers of oil paint, emulating those moments where the light on the sea and sky combine to create breathtaking effects.
Susan Sands says the gallery is also the place to buy that memorable artwork, a present which gives lasting pleasure.
She adds: “Make a special visit to the gallery this Christmas to visit ‘Fault Lines: Gaza 355’, an exhibition of 6x4 postcard sized artworks by local artists, writers and poets to be sold in aid of critical care and food relief for the people of Gaza with their continuous struggle for survival in the most terrifying of circumstances. This relief project is organised by The Red Crescent Emergency Services and the Sameer Project.”
Treasure Trove is being shown from November 23 to January 11 at Oriel Q Gallery, 11 Market Street, Narberth, SA67 7AX. Gallery opening hours are 10am-4pm, Wednesday to Saturday.
