A CARELESS driver from South Africa drove a van through an archway between two properties near Haverfordwest, causing structural damage.

A not guilty plea had been entered and the 58-year-old defendant was not present on January 27 when Haverfordwest Magistrates found Mark John Battrick, of Sandton, guilty of driving without due care and attention.

Dyfed-Powys Police informed the court how Battrick had driven a Citroen Relay Van on Hall Court, Johnston, last January, colliding with the archway, causing damage to the pillars and a concrete lintel which was knocked to the ground.

Magistrates fined Battrick £660, plus costs of £650 and a surcharge of £264 to fund victim services. His driving record was endorsed with nine points.
